There’s an incredible amount of radio signals. It’s impossible to know them all, let alone recognize them. So why not get help from SignalID?At the moment, it recognizes about twenty signals (complete list in the application). With only 5 seconds of recording time, it tries to recognize the signal. Each paired contact generates a rotating 4-word phrase that only the real person's phone can produce. You ask her to read her phrase aloud; you type what you hear. Green banner: verified. If you're standing at a store checkout or reception desk and need to tell someone your personal information (such as your phone number or date-of-birth), anyone standing nearby can overhear it. Instead, you can use Silent Share to visually display the information on your phone in a large, easy-to-read font. The main screen shows the default user account ('Me') and some dummy fields ('Name' and 'Phone'). Use the floating Edit button to add, edit and remove fields. Fields can have any name and value you like, and you can add as many fields as you like. To show someone your information, from the main screen check the boxes next to the fields you want to show, then press the floating View button. You can add other users' information too (or just divide your own information between multiple accounts). Press the User icon on the main screen to see a list of users. Press on a user to see and edit their information, or use the floating button and menu to add or edit/delete users respectively.

Comparable to other major cities worldwide, Berlin aims to reduce traffic emissions. Foremost mechanism for this is to increase the share of bicycle traffic. However, polls show that a lack of safety and fear of accidents keeps people from using their bikes more frequently. Furthermore, it also quite hard from a city planning perspective to get a good overview of location, time, frequency, and kind of hazards in bicycle traffic since official accident statistics only cover crashes but do not provide information on near crashes.In this project, we collect – with a strong focus on data protection and privacy – data on such near crashes to identify when and where bicyclists are especially at risk. We also aim to identify the main routes of bicycle traffic in Berlin. To obtain such data, we have developed the SimRa app that uses GPS information to track routes of bicyclists and the built-in acceleration sensors to pre-categorize near crashes. After their trip, users are asked to annotate and upload the collected data in a fully anonymous way.The collected data offers detailed insights into bicycle traffic in Berlin (and other cities) and hazardous situations to public administrators and other interested entities so that the number of near crashes (and hence also crashes) can be reduced. The data can also be used to optimize traffic flows to make bicycle traffic more attractive. For the evaluation of data, we plan to cooperate with interdisciplinary partners such as city planning, interested citizens, but also the Berlin Senate Department for the Environment, Transport and Climate Protection.

SimbaDroid is an SMB server for Android, allowing you to access the contents of your storage (both internal storage or an external SD card) from your computer via wi-fi. Due to Android limitations, this app requires root (as on all Unixoid operating systems, it is not possible to open a port < 1024 otherwise, and the default SMB port is 445 and Windows doesn't work with anything else). Without root, you either need some sort of SMB client which allows configuring the port used (SimbaDroid uses port 4450 behind the scenes), or some kind of port mapping software to allow Windows to transparently connect to port 4450. Due to JFileServer limitations, only SMBv1 is supported, which isn't ideal for modern Windows, either, but c'est la vie… Since the app is mostly for my private use, at the moment there are no configuration options – shares for the internal storage as well as an external SD card (if one is detected) are set up automatically and are accessible without authentication, so be careful about using this app in public networks. I might add some options for configuring your own custom shares and user authentication eventually, but no guarantees as to if and when. READ/WRITE/MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is required for filesystem access.
